Happy 4th!

"I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."
John Adams, penned to wife Abigail

I came across that quote as I was sick on the couch watching "Macy's 4th of July Celebration" and googling the background of the 4th.  Yes. I'm a nerd!  I think it's a beautiful reminder, generations later, of the importance of this day.  Currently, the world's wars seem to ravage on.  Innocent civilians' lives are being torn about in every which way.  I am so proud, and so incredibly blessed, to be living in the United States of America. So frequently, when I read the news, I say a solemn prayer, thanking my lucky stars that my child can grow up in America.

Our 4th of July was so sweet, albeit pretty low key.  I had strep throat & another virus. I had no other choice than to spend most of the long weekend sleeping or lying on the couch.  Thankfully we did get out for the neighborhood parade. Dom loved it!
